Basic information about International activities

Maintenance and further development of the international activities is one of the Czech Science Foundation’s (GA CR) long-term priorities.

Worldwide international cooperation is implemented within the Czech Science Foundation’s membership in the Global Research Council (GRC), at the pan-European level especially within the GA CR’s membership in European Science Foundation (ESF) and Science Europe (SE). Based on the bilateral agreements GA CR closely cooperates with South Korea, Taiwan, Germany and Austria.

European Science Foundation (ESF)

GA CR has been the member organization of ESF since 1999. GA CR representatives participate in regular meetings of the ESF’s decision-making body. In previous years ESF was promoting the development of science by bringing together leading scientists and funding agencies to implement pan-European scientific and science policy initiatives. Nowadays the ESF’s activities concentrate mainly on providing of services to the science community, including peer review, evaluation and conferences, as well as support career tracking. ESF also hosts high-level expert boards and committees to support them in achieving their objectives. The policy activities have been transferred to Science Europe which now handles the mainstay of the strategic and policy activities that ESF initiated and executed in previous years.

Science Europe (SE)

Science Europe is an association of European Research Funding Organizations and Research Performing Organizations established in 2011. GA CR is one of its founding members. Science Europe takes over some of the policy activities that ESF executed in previous years. Science Europe promotes the interests of the Research Funding and Research Performing Organizations of Europe. It supports its members in their efforts to foster European research and will strengthen the European Research Area. One of the GA CR’s main interests within the SE is the Open Access issue, i.e. the accessibility of scientific data and outputs.

Global Research Council (GRC)

The Global Research Council is a virtual organization established in 2012 and comprised of the heads of science funding agencies from around the world supporting basic research. It promotes the sharing of data and best practices for high-quality collaboration among funding agencies all over the world.
